Born from Griffin’s fight, Griff’s Got Grit is dedicated to turning struggle into strength. Rallying a community to support families facing pediatric organ failure and transplant journeys, raise awareness, and remind every child and parent that they are never fighting alone.
Griffin's Story
Griffin’s journey has been one of extraordinary strength and resilience from the very beginning. He has been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and Stage 5 vesicoureteral reflux, conditions that require intensive, ongoing medical care for the rest of his life.
In his short time, Griff has already undergone two surgeries and now depends on daily life-sustaining dialysis, along with a complex regimen of medications. He is closely followed by multiple specialized teams at Boston Children’s Hospital, who continue to monitor and guide his care.
Griffin is currently awaiting a kidney transplant, a second chance at life that will offer him the opportunity to grow, thrive, and experience a healthier future. Despite the challenges he faces, he continues to defy the odds, reaching meaningful milestones and showing incredible determination every single day!
Through it all, Griffin remains incredibly happy, bringing so much joy and light to everyone around him. We are endlessly proud of his strength and remain hopeful as we continue this journey alongside him!

The Griffs Got Grit fundraiser was an unforgettable evening, overflowing with compassion, generosity, and the unbreakable spirit of our community.
Held in support of Griffin Bates, the event brought together over 450 attendees — families, friends, neighbors, and local heroes — all united by love and a shared purpose.
Thanks to the incredible support of local businesses and donors, the event featured a stunning array of baskets and prizes. From handcrafted goods and gift cards to themed experiences and one-of-a-kind items, each donation told a story of a community that truly shows up for its own!
